What are unmanned ground vehicles actually used for in the Gulf?
Three roles dominate: explosive ordnance disposal, reconnaissance inside buildings, tunnels and confined spaces where sending a person is unacceptable, and standoff inspection of suspect vehicles or packages. Each has a different size, endurance and manipulator requirement, and a platform chosen for one is usually wrong for the others.
The practice supported the L3Harris Robotics Division across the region, including its T7 and T4 platforms, working on customer requirements, opportunities and partnership development with EDGE Group entities.
- Platform selection against the actual mission, not the datasheet
- Control link range, latency and behaviour inside structures
- Manipulator and payload fit for EOD and inspection tasks
- Integration with command systems and existing comms
- Operator training burden and sustainment
